Coordinator of Music Ministry

St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, a small urban parish at 4052 E. 38th St. in Indianapolis, is seeking a part-time Music Director to be responsible for the effective preparation, coordination, performance, and leadership of music within the liturgical celebrations of the parish.

This position requires

  1. proficiency in keyboard accompaniment of diverse styles, including gospel, contemporary, and traditional (primarily piano with some organ experience required), and
  2. strong knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy.

An important part of the Coordinator’s role is to personally accompany and direct cantors and the adult choir, in addition to handling recruitment, formation, and supervision of all music ministers. Strong organizational and collaborative skills are also essential.

The Saint Andrew Faith Enrichment Project, or Project SAFE, is an exciting effort to provide catechesis to the students at the Andrew Academy.  We are looking for strong teachers who are practicing, faith-filled Catholics with good knowledge of the Catholic faith and a desire to continue their spiritual and intellectual development.  This will be a part-time (7 hrs/wk) paid position.

The Project SAFE Program will actively welcome all families that attend the Andrew Academy.  Through vibrant catechesis, we will provide age appropriate, informative instruction in accordance with the Religious Curriculum Guidelines for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.  Through teaching, prayer, and witness, we will invite parents and students into a relationship with this community and with Jesus Christ, so that this program is an extension of our parish vision, “to learn anew the Gospel: the Good News that God Loves us – then to live it and share it.”

Catechist Responsibilities include:

  • Create and maintain a welcoming environment that fosters growth in faith and understanding
  • Be prepared to teach effectively
  • Assist in planning of special events and liturgies
  • Participate in all required catechist formation activities
  • Communicate the essential elements in the experience of Christian Living
  • Effectively communicate children’s needs and progress to Program Director and Parents
  • Continuously study the faith so as to faithfully witness and teach only authentic Church teachings.
  • Know and adhere to all of the policies and expectations laid out in Project SAFE Handbook
  • Be available from 2:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday on school days.
  • Additional Responsibilities as assigned by Program Director

  • Is generous with time and talent
  • Is open to a deeper understanding of theology and methodology.

Desired Additional Skills or Experience

  • Proficiency with Guitar or Piano – especially with experience leading liturgical and worship music.
  • 2 years experience as a teacher or catechist
  • Passion for Arts and Crafts
